What is Gua Sha?

Gua Sha is a natural facial technique using jade gua sha tools, originating from ancient China.

The tool is used to perform what is commonly described as scraping technique along the contours of the face. The gua sha tool has smooth rounded edges and is used with massage oil so it glides across the surface of the skin.

How does it work?

This technique improves blood supply, resolving stagnation and draining toxins. Clinical research has shown that it increases the surface circulation of blood within the skin tissues by 400% during the treatment. Within 20 minutes this drops to 200% and can still be elevated by 100% of normal levels a day later.

The enhanced blood supply is critical to support the healing and rejuvenation process. It promotes the building of new collagen, which is essential to support the structures of the face to enhance tone and to fill out lines and wrinkles.

The benefits of Gua Sha

Gua Sha is particularly effective in line and wrinkle reduction and we use several techniques which help break down the cell structures around the lines, whilst promoting new cell production, collagen and elastin in the treatment area.

  • Improves blood flow
  • Drains toxins and stagnation
  • Clears blockages
  • Induces a healing response
  • Removes fatty deposits and restores facial contours

What to expect during the treatment

The treatment starts with shoulder and neck massage to promote relaxation.

We using manual massage to warm up the facial muscles before using the gua sha.

Facial cupping is also used to create a gentle vacuum on the face. This provides a counter-action to the massage which compresses the tissues, allowing blood and fluid to flood into the tissues, bringing hydration and nutrients to the layers of skin and flushing out toxins.

To finish off the facial, we use a jade roller to apply cosmeceutical grade hyaluronic acid, vitamin B5 and vitamin C serum. Cosmeceutical grade skin products are able to penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin, increasing hydration to fill out lines, and supporting the growth of new collagen.

Finally, we end with a head massage, to leave you looking younger and feeling less stressed.

How many treatments do you need

Gua Sha facials are a more intensive option than the Natural Facelift Massage. To get maximum effect, we recommend a course of treatments at regular intervals over 6 weeks to 2 months. The aim is to have regular treatments and maintain the application of the serums throughout the time it takes for the skin to go through its full renewal cycle which is 4-8 weeks, depending on your age and lifestyle.
